Self Build wins Design Award

A self build project involving young unemployed people in housing need, supported by New Essex Housing Association, a subsidiary of New Islington and Hackney Housing Association has won a prestigious Housing Design Award.

The self build project at Darwin Road, Tilbury, was designed by architects Sergison Bates and provided NVQ training and 10 self build homes. The judges of the Housing Design Awards were particularly impressed by its ‘innovative mix of social and physical regeneration’. This project has been highly successful in assisting the self builders to find paid work
